Biography

Alisa Yuko Bernhard obtained her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music (Research) in piano performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where she held the Bessie Cook Award and John and Dorothy Vimpani Pianoforte Scholarship. She is currently a PhD candidate at the Sydney Conservatorium.

In 2010, Alisa received a Big Brother Movement Scholarship, which enabled her to participate in the 2011 London Masterclasses; in 2014 she attended the International Mendelssohn Academy in Leipzig, having won a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Scholarship. In 2017 Alisa won the award for the best performance of a Prelude and Fugue in the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition and first prize in the Semper Music International Festival Competition at Voels am Schlern, Italy. In 2018 she was accepted to participate in the Liszt Academy Seminar masterclasses (Sapporo, Japan) as well as the 2nd Nohant Festival Chopin in Japan Piano Competition (Tokyo), where she was a prize winner. In October 2019 she gave an all-Chopin recital in Nohant, France, on the eve of the anniversary of Frederic Chopin’s death. She has also performed at the Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw, and plays regularly in and around Sydney.

A student of the late Bulgarian pianist Nikolay Evrov, Alisa has received piano and chamber music lessons and masterclasses from pianists such as Jacques Rouvier, Arie Vardi, Norma Fischer, Jerzy Romaniuk, Sandor Falvai, Yves Henri, Alexey Sokolov, Eduardo Delgado, Frank Levy, Boris Konovalov, Polina Osetinskaya, John O’Conor and Caroline Almonte.
