Biography
Joy Chen began her piano studies at the age of six, and is currently completing a Bachelor degree of Music Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, studying with Dr. Paul Rickard-Ford. Joy was part of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Rising Stars Program from 2014 to 2018, under a scholarship. In 2016, Joy attained her L-MusA Diploma with Distinction. In 2019, Joy was a recipient of both the Myron Kantor Bequest Scholarship, and the Henderson Traveller Scholarship. And in 2020, Joy has won the Theme and Variations Piano Foundation Award.
Throughout the years, Joy has gained many awards in Sydney and St. George Eisteddfods. Joy has also received several prizes in international competitions; including 1st and 2nd prizes in Shenzhen Piano Open Competition (2011-2012), Germany Irmler Piano Competition in China (2011), Shenzhen Yamaha Piano Competition (2012), and HongKong Asia Piano Open Competition (2012). Joy was a finalist at the EPTA International Competition in Belgium (2014), and was invited to participate in the International Mozart Competition in Zhuhai (2015), ‘A Step Towards Mastery’ International Competition in St. Petersburg (2017), and the Ettlingen Competition (2020). In 2019, Joy received first prize in the Golden Classical Music Awards International Competition, and was invited to play in the Carnegie Hall in New York in 2020.
Throughout the years, Joy has participated in many masterclasses with world renowned pianists such as Denes Varjon, Dmitry Onishchenko, Eva Kupiec, Helen Krizos, Inge Rosar, Ingo Danhornn, Justas Dvarionas, Pablo Galdo, Sa Chen, Vyacheslav Gryaznov and Zhaoyi Dan.
