Mia Huang began her piano studies at the age of 4 and is currently studying Master of Music Studies at the Queensland Conservatorium, under the tutelage of Oleg Stepanov. In her recent undergraduate years, Mia has been a recipient of awards and opportunities including being named the ACT Young Virtuoso Award (2018) and selected as a finalist in the Theme & Variations Foundation grants (2018). In 2019, Mia graduated from her undergraduate music degree from the Australian National University, receiving the esteemed Peter & Lena Karmel Prize for the Best Graduating Music Student.
Mia has enjoyed performing in various capacities. In 2019, she performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto K.453 with members of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra and the ANU School of Music. She is passionate about bridging different cultures through music, particularly by bringing exquisite but seldom-heard Chinese piano music to the Australian audience. She is currently conducting her masters research on Chen Qigang’s piano concerto, Er Huang, of which she plans to perform the Australian premier.
